Over the past several years, many people have begun to consider where their food comes from and how it is processed. As “factory” farming has become more and more dependent on chemicals and antibiotics, and as more and more of our food supply is being controlled by “conglomerates” and huge multi-national corporations, they recognized that there must be a better way to feed their families.

At the same time, many farmers and ranchers recognized that their continued dependence on bigger equipment, more powerful herbicides, pesticides, hormones and antibiotics, and a continually declining commodities market was not sustainable.

These farmers began working with nature instead of against it to produce a higher quality product, and they began marketing what they produced directly to the customer through Farmers Markets, CSAs, and buying co-ops. 

In 2005, a small group of these farmers, led by Stan Schutte, recognized the need for a meat processing plant that would provide the same level of quality in processing that they provide while raising their animals. Family Farmers Meats, LLC is the result of this vision.


Our mission
Operate the best small meat-processing  facility in central Illinois for preparation  of organic, drug-free, traceable meats to fulfill the high expectations of our customers.  

Actively participate in community activities and provide local citizens with long-term, good quality employment.

A Little History
